MacBook Touch Bar is a touch display that replaces the old function keys. It was first unveiled on the MacBook Pro updated in October 2016. Apple advertises the Touch Bar as a breakthrough feature, but in fact, the Touch Bar provides limited functions, and people have always been divided on its usefulness.
Last year, some developers found a way to make the Touch Bar more useful through Windows 10’s taskbar support. Through the task bar support of the Touch Bar, you can switch between applications and windows. You can use Boot Camp to install Windows 10 on your MacBook, use Microsoft’s own driver, and then display the taskbar on the Touch Bar.
However, another developer discovered that as long as the device is running Windows 10, the MacBook Touch Bar can also be used as a second display.
Of course, because the Touch Bar is too small, it does not make sense as a second display, but the support of the display will eventually allow users to set up custom Windows 10 functions for the Touch Bar.
This is achieved by using the iBridge Virtual FrameBuffer device driver . Since Windows 10 does not support monitors with a display height of 60px (2170*60), developers have to use a custom height of 100px to force it.
The whole process also involves Microsoft’s Common Class Generic Parent Driver and another driver to support FrameBuffer transmission and provide pictures up to 30FPS.
In the above case, Windows 10 allows the Touch Bar to respond to touch, but currently does not include support for custom functions.
Naija Tech News understands that this is a third-party project and is still in the early stages of development. It is expected that more developers will propose other ways to improve the MacBook Touch Bar function.
