The new Android has been available for a few months. But not all manufacturers have updated their latest devices and previous smartphone generations. Or it took a long time. Computerworld has now taken a closer look at how good or bad a few well-known manufacturers are. Up to now, Google has never been able to update 100% of their smartphones to Android 10 on the first day. The update for the first pixel generation came in surprisingly, it could also have been the last Android upgrade for 2016 smartphones.
Android updates: waiting for several months is still normal
OnePlus received the grade B. Updated its latest generation within 18 days and previous smartphone generations after 93 days. Like all other manufacturers, OnePlus no longer supplies all devices that have ever been offered. Samsung even gets the grade D +, because it took up to 106 days to deliver the last flagship smartphones and earlier devices were only delivered after 147 days. LG gets the grade F, while HTC and Motorola are still waiting and receive the worst rating.
Some other manufacturers had not been rated because they were not interesting for the local market. It took Sony over 90 days to get Android 10 on Xperia 1 and Xperia 5, which did better than Samsung. A lot had happened in the past few years. However, some well-known names still have room for improvement. However, a brisk delivery of new security updates is actually more important.
