Russian competition regulator FAS said on Monday that Apple has abused its dominant position in the mobile application market through the App Store and will issue an order to require the company to resolve violations.
An Apple spokesperson said the company plans to appeal the FAS ruling.
Previously, the European Commission also launched an investigation into Apple and the App Store’s rules, which include requiring application developers to use the company’s own in-app purchase system.
FAS pointed out that users must download applications that can be used in Apple’s iOS operating system through the App Store, and stated that Apple illegally reserves the right to block any third-party applications from the App Store. Cybersecurity company Kaspersky Lab (Kaspersky Lab) previously filed a complaint, which triggered an investigation by FAS. Kaspersky complained that Apple’s operating system rejected the new version of its Safe Kids parental control application.
Apple said that the company has released the 12th version of its parental control application Screen Time, which has functions similar to Kaspersky programs, allowing parents to control their children’s use of mobile phones and tablets. The company said the reason it removed several parental control apps from the App Store was that these apps “put users’ privacy and safety at risk”.
