9to5 Mac reported that a new report shows that Apple is planning to abandon support for iPhone SE (first generation), iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus when it releases iOS 15 next year. Previously, Apple maintained compatibility with all these devices in this year’s iOS 14.
The report comes from The Verifier, and when it comes to Apple rumors, the accuracy is mixed. Previously The Verifier did accurately report that the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 will not receive updates after iOS 12. It also accurately reported that iOS 14 will support all iPhone models identical to iOS 13.
This means that iOS 15 will run on the following iPhone models:
- 2021 iPhone lineup
- iPhone 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 12 Pro
- iPhone 12 mini
- iPhone 12
- iPhone 11
- iPhone 11 Pro
- iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone XS
- iPhone XS Max
- iPhone XR
- iPhone X
- iPhone 8
- iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone 7
- iPhone 7 Plus
- iPhone SE (second generation)
- iPod touch (7th generation)
Naijatechnews was informed that the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were first launched in September 2015, and then the iPhone SE (first generation) was launched in March 2016. These devices are very popular and have received more than four years of system software updates from Apple.
With the launch of the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone SE 2, Apple is now selling two modern devices that match the shape and design of the iPhone 6s. iPhone SE 2 is actually almost the same in design as iPhone 6s, but uses a more modern A13 processor inside. The iPhone 12 mini is smaller in physical size, but because it uses a full-screen design, it provides a larger display , and is also equipped with an A14 processor and an improved camera system.
By convention, Apple will announce a major system update for iOS 15 at WWDC in 2021.
