Qualcomm has announced the benchmark score data of the Snapdragon 888 SoC, which will be used for Android flagship phones in 2021, but the results show that it cannot match the iPhone 12/Pro The A14 chip in it is on par, or even the A13 of the iPhone 11/Pro.
Foreign media AnandTech compared the benchmarks of Qualcomm Snapdragon phones with those of Apple’s iOS devices. The iPhone model won the Geekbench 5 and GFXBench tests.
Naijatechnews is informed that the single-core score of the Snapdragon 888 chip is 1135 points and the multi-core score is 3794 points, while the single-core score of the iPhone 12 Pro using the A14 chip is 1603 points and the multi-core score is 4187 points.
In the GFXBench test to measure GPU performance, the Snapdragon 888 model scored 86 points (calculated in frames per second), while the iPhone 12 Pro scored 102.24 points. Sustained performance is currently unknown, it will depend on the power consumption of the chip, but AnandTech believes that if the power consumption is competitive, the Snapdragon 888 model may eventually beat the iPhone .
Although the Snapdragon 888 does not seem to be on par with the peak performance of the A13 or A14 SoC used in Apple’s iPhone, the sustained performance will depend to a large extent on the power consumption of the chip. If this drop is between 4W and 4.5W, then most of the flagship Android phones in 2021 are likely to maintain this peak performance data, allowing Qualcomm to regain the mobile performance crown from Apple. But if the chip is greatly throttled, Snapdragon 888 may lose the crown to regain it. But even so, for Android users, they shouldn’t care too much: Compared with mobile phones in 2020, the generation gap will still be huge, which is one of the biggest GPU performance leap that Qualcomm can achieve so far.
Although the performance of the Snapdragon 888 chip is not as good as that of the A13 and A14, it has been greatly improved compared to the previous generation Snapdragon 865 used in the current Android flagship smartphone. The CPU performance is increased by 25%, and the GPU performance is increased by 35%.
AnandTech said that since these benchmarks are provided by Qualcomm, rather than independently obtained, I believe that Qualcomm’s data is accurate. We also hope that these data are “accurate and will be reproduced in commercial equipment.”
