The rumors about Google making its first in-house smartwatch started back in 2018 and later in 2019, details about new job listing for its own wearable devices surfaced. However, ever since then, nothing has been heard about it. Now, according to a new report from Insider, the company’s first smartwatch codenamed “Rohan” from Google’s Pixel hardware group is said to be in the works.

This will be different from Fitbit, which Google acquired in 2019 for $2.1 billion. The Pixel Watch name is not confirmed yet, but the report says that it will work along with Pixel phones.

The report adds that the smartwatch will run the latest version of Wear OS, with Fitbit integration (codenamed “Nightlight”) for health and fitness tracking capabilities, feature a circular dial without any physical bezel, use proprietary watch bands and reportedly require daily charging like most other Wear OS smartwatches.

According to a report from The Verge, the smartwatch is expected to cost more than a Fitbit and will compete with Apple Watch.
