Not that it’s a surprise, but Guerrilla Games has officially delayed Horizon Forbidden West until February 18th, 2022. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier had already reported about the delay in July, and this now means Sony will not have a first-party title coming out this holiday 2021.
Citing reasons for the delay, Game Director Mathijs de Jonge said “it’s no surprise that our teams were hugely impacted by the global pandemic,” in a PlayStation blog post. “We have been adjusting to new workflows, protocols, and other challenges, while keeping our teams safe and prioritizing a healthy work/life balance.”
With the confirmation of a February 18, 2022 release date, pe-orders will now begin September 2, 2021. More information will be released concerning the pre-order soon. Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Horizon Zero Dawn which was released for the PlayStation 4 in 2017.
In related news, an Enhanced Performance patch update has been released for Horizon Zero Dawn. The update brings a targeted 60fps to the game on the PlayStation 5 for buttery-smooth gameplay. Patch 1.53 is now live and it will be updated automatically to those who have the game already installed.
Horizon Forbidden West joins other games from PlayStation Studios to be delayed until 2022, God of War sequel has already been pushed back as well as Gran Turismo 7. Sony showcased a 14 minutes gameplay of Forbidden West in May and the game will launch on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
