The Microsoft Authenticator app can replace your password.
It’s a major development, although the common password method remains an option for Microsoft accounts for those who chose to make use of it. If you want make your account more secure and digital life less stressful, it is good you give this a consideration.
Switching to a Passwordless Login helps you replace your Microsoft account password with a code from the Microsoft Authenticator app, the Windows Hello biometric login system (usually facial or fingerprint recognition), a physical security key that you keep with you, or a verification code sent via email or text.
Although these options are not 100 percent foolproof, it some how require you to have something physical with you (a phone or a key) or access to another account. This is something different from the usually name or number use as security.
To start using the passwords method
1. You need to download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app for Android or iOS first. (Microsoft unfortunately didn’t make its system compatible with other authenticator apps.)
2. Log in using your existing Microsoft account email address and password, and the app can then verify your identity.
3. After the app setup is done, click on the security settings page for your Microsoft account in a web browser. If Microsoft has pushed out the feature to your account, you’ll see a Passwordless account option underneath Additional security—turn this on, then click Next on the confirmation dialog, then approve the request that will appear on your phone via the Microsoft Authenticator app.
