Apple has released iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 with updates key to using your phone during the ongoing COVID-19COVID-19 pandemic. The new update makes it easier and faster to unlock your iPhone while wearing a face mask. Apple has also added an API Notification to support the contract tracing system built in collaboration with Google.
While trying to unlock your iPhone with a face mask on, it will automatically skip the Face ID unlock and show you the passcode field. This also works if you need to use apps that need Face ID authorization while wearing a face mask.

The second change also comes with support for fighting the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The updates bring support for Exposure Notification API which works in conjunction with contract tracing apps from public health authorities. The API allows developers to build apps which will take advantage of the contact tracing. As far as privacy goes, not all contact tracing app will use the API so it is up to you to check the app you are installing.
iOS 13.5 comes with general bug fixes and Apple now lets users in the US automatically share health and other important information from their Medical ID with emergency services whenever an emergency call is placed.
Lastly is the update to Group FaceTime calls. Users can now disable the feature where the video tile of the current speaker becomes larger automatically.
iOS 13.5 is available for download on compatible iPhone and iPad devices.
