The Central Bank of Nigeria has made it easy for Nigerians to check their BVN number using their mobile phone. To check your BVN number using an MTN SIM card, follow the procedures below.
- Go to the Call/Phone app on your mobile phone
- Dial the BVN MTN code here >>.*565*0# using your MTN SIM card
- You will receive a message containing your 11 digit BVN number.
- Copy and save your BVN number.

If you don’t want to use the BVN MTN USSD code to check your BVN number, then you can check your BVN number online, using your mobile banking app. Download and install the mobile baking app of your bank. Register and login to the internet banking app, once you’re logged in, access your account profile. You will find your bank verification number under your account profile.
To check your BVN number using the USSD code (*565*0#) costs N20 naira only. However, if you’re checking it via your internet banking app, then you don’t need to make any payment. After checking your BVN number, remember to copy it out, so you don’t need to continuously pay the charge when you need your BVN number.

To get a Bank Verification Number (BVN) in Nigeria, you must obtain the following:
- BVN enrolment form: You can obtain the BVN enrolment form from any bank branch around you.
- Valid Identity Card: You must have any of the following identity documents; Nigerian international passport, Nigerian National Identity card,or Nigerian Driver’s license
- A recent passport photograph.
