Microsoft is planning to bring the Chromium version of the Edge PWA application to the Windows 10 store. Last week, Microsoft said it was working to allow developers to upload PWAs to the Microsoft Store. Now, PAX Web team project manager Justin Willis published an article on Medium detailing Microsoft’s plan to allow developers to create PWA applications for the Microsoft Store.
Naijatechnews.com was informed that the post emphasized some of the advantages of using PWA, including Web API, such as shortcuts, protocol handling, URI handling, file type association and compatibility with different platforms. Microsoft recommends that users use the PWA generator to create and publish PWAs without writing a lot of code. Justin also highlighted some features that are available on EdgeHTML but not supported on Chromium framework.
- Live tiles are not supported
- No startup page
- Missing analysis in Partner Center
Things to note during the review
If your PWA has already used the EdgeHTML package in the Microsoft Store and the user has logged in, the user needs to re-authenticate in the new Edge package.
Users need to install Microsoft Edge browser. If Microsoft Edge is not installed, users will be prompted to install Edge before installing the app. As we continue to push Edge, it is expected that fewer and fewer users will encounter this situation.
If you are a developer and plan to build a PWA, then you can use PWABuilder to try the new Edge PWA package preview version of the Microsoft Store.
