According to reports, Apple has acquired a start-up company that can make listening to podcasts more like listening to radio. Apple’s move is aimed at continuing to improve its services in the increasingly fierce competition with Spotify .
According to people familiar with the matter, earlier this year, Apple completed the acquisition of this startup called Scout FM, which is a very popular podcasting application for users, supports iPhone and Android devices, and can also be used on Amazon Use on smart speakers.
The application can learn user preferences based on the user’s listening history and input keywords, and uses artificial intelligence to recommend content that may be of interest to users. Many Apple device users are using Scout FM, and it can also be integrated with Apple’s CarPlay. After connecting the iPhone to the car, Scout FM will appear on the car screen.
An Apple spokesperson confirmed the authenticity of the acquisition, but he declined to disclose more information. After the completion of the acquisition, Scout FM ceased service.
For Apple, the importance of podcast content is constantly increasing. Fifteen years ago, Apple became one of the first companies to provide users with podcast content. Since then, the company has continued to enrich the content and features of podcasts, and now almost all Apple devices can be used to listen to podcasts.
The acquisition of Scout FM is one of the few acquisitions that Apple has completed since 2020. The companies recently acquired by Apple include payment company Mobeewave, weather application Dark Sky and VR content company NextVR.
