According to the foreign media The Verge, the well-known American game company EA has agreed to invest in the acquisition of British game developer Codemasters. The transaction will be completed in the first quarter of next year. The purchase price is £6.04 per share. The total price is approximately US$1.2 billion. The games produced by Codemasters include “Dust”, “GRID”, “F1” and other series, all of which are well-known racing games. EA’s acquisition means that the company will further expand its control over the racing game market.
British media Sky News first reported EA’s intention to acquire Codemasters. Codemasters had previously agreed to a $970 million deal with American game company Take-Two Interactive, but was not satisfied with some of the acquisition details. EA confirmed the matter earlier on Monday.
Naijatechnews is informed that Codemasters is one of the largest and oldest gaming companies in the UK, established in the 1980s. The company previously produced a game called “Dizzy” and also developed it for the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 computers of the last century. The current market value of the US EA company is as high as 40 billion U.S. dollars. It has well-known games such as “FIFA” and “Need for Speed” series. It is one of the most famous game companies in the world.
