According to Engadget, the battle between Epic and Apple has not stopped.
Epic announced that they have asked Apple to restore its App Store developer account, and again asked it to agree to provide games to iOS users.
In a 182-page document, they accused Apple of being a monopolist and retaliated against developers who did not comply.
Naijatechnews learned that Apple recently terminated Epic’s developer account, saying that the company repeatedly submitted updates to its applications for review, which violated Apple’s App Store guidelines. These violations are mainly aimed at the vBucks payment system, which bypasses the 30% income that needs to be paid to Apple.
Epic Games said in a statement:
“Today, we ask the court to stop Apple from retaliating against Epic for challenging Apple’s misconduct in our antitrust case . Apple is a monopolist, and developers must fight together. This is to free consumers and developers from Apple’s necessary steps to impose illegal restrictions on app distribution and in-app payment processing on iOS. Developers have not commented for a long time because they are concerned about Apple’s retaliation. The company’s recent actions indicate that if Someone intends to challenge Apple’s monopoly, and Apple will destroy this person’s business. We believe that everyone should enjoy lower costs and a competitive advantage.”
At present, Apple has blocked the developer account of Epic Games, mainly because it will cause harm to other developers. The Epic/Apple case is currently under trial.
Although most people think Epic just wants to make more money, Epic sees itself as a warrior who protects the freedom of developers and users. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney said in an email:
“If Apple one day chooses to return to its roots and establish an open platform that allows consumers to freely choose their own payment method to install software, and developers can reach consumers and directly conduct business without intermediaries, then Epic will once again become Apple Enthusiastic supporters of Epic. Prior to this, Epic has been very different from Apple’s policies and practices, and we will continue to work hard as we have done in the past to address other injustices in the industry.”
Although many Apple fans support Apple, Epic has also won the support of many people in the industry. At present, Apple has been investigated by competition regulators in the United States, Europe, South Korea, Russia, and Japan. It seems that Apple is unlikely to get rid of this confrontation by “holding on.”
