Indian operator Bharti Airtel has strengthened its agreement with Ericsson to deploy 5G wireless and transmission products to increase its network capacity while continuing to prepare for the launch of next-generation services.
In a statement, Ericsson said that this extended multi-year contract is based on a 25-year partnership between the two parties, and it will enable Batty to increase network capacity, including backhaul, so as to provide customers with an excellent experience.
Randeep Sekhon, Batti’s CTO, emphasized the importance of this move in building a network “for 5G and beyond”, noting that the company is “fascinated by providing customers with the best network Experience, especially in this unprecedented era where digital connectivity is more important than ever.”
India is expected to allocate 5G spectrum in 2021 , a process that was previously delayed due to poor economic conditions in the industry and the pilot program of operators being blocked by the new crown virus lockdown measures.
Ericsson’s senior vice president for Southeast Asia, Oceania and India, Nunzio Mirtillo, added that the products produced in India will enable Bharti Telecom’s network to “satisfy the country’s rapidly growing data traffic demand.”
Prior to this, the two companies established a new partnership in deploying Ericsson’s AI-based automation technology to improve network performance.
