Wing Aviation LLC, a subsidiary of Alphabet, applied to U.S. regulators in the hope that they would allow the company to expand the scale of operations, so as to improve the operational efficiency of the command center.
According to documents provided by the FAA, Wing wants to control the drone fleet through a so-called “central hub”, so that the driver can remotely monitor it even if it is not in the drone operating area.
In addition, Wing also hopes to fly drones at multiple locations in the operating area, and hopes that the regulator will reduce the frequency of inspections. Although the FAA released the information, it did not disclose whether it would approve the request.
Wing, Amazon, and UPS all want to use drones for delivery. Currently, Wing has tested the system in Christianburg, Virginia.
