9to5Google reported that on the occasion of the release of Google Pixel 4a, an internal document from Android revealed the hardware products that Google will release next year.
This document enumerates the release sequence of Google’s mobile operating system (Android) over the years and all the hardware released since the Pixel 2 series, including the newly released Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 smartphones. In addition, they also found the Pixel 5a (code-named Barbette), which is expected to be released next year, and the other three devices under development, code-named “Raven”, “Oriole” and “Passport.”
It is reported that the first two code names may refer to the Pixel 6 series. The most noteworthy is the third code name. This document clearly mentions this device as “foldable”. All three products are marked to be released in the fourth quarter of 2021.
This sign indicates that the first folding screen smartphone product of the Pixel series is under development and will be launched next year .
As early as 2019, foreign media CNET wrote that Google is developing a “folding screen Pixel phone”, but at the time, Pixel product director Mario Queiroz only explicitly mentioned that the folding Pixel is still in the technical prototype stage. He admitted that Google is developing a folding screen. Screen phones have been around for a long time, but he said that now people don’t need folding screen phones, they just stay at the “something is good” stage. At present, this old employee who has served Google for 14 years has resigned, which makes the prospect of folding screen Pixel products confusing.
In addition to the folding screen Pixel, this document also mentions that the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 series will be available in October, and the next-generation entry-level product Pixel 5a will be released in the second quarter of next year.
9to5 Google pointed out that although this document points out the future release rhythm of the Google hardware team, the main purpose is to develop the Android system, and not all products will actually be listed.
