Google YouTube announced that starting from September 28, 2020, it will disable the viewer contribution (community subtitles) function for all channels. Through the audience contribution feature, viewers can add subtitles and titles/descriptions to the video. Since the usage rate of this feature is not high and it is prone to spam/abuse, we decided to abandon this feature and focus on other creator tools. You can still use the subtitles, automatic subtitles, and third-party tools and services you uploaded. You must publish your audience contributions before September 28, 2020 to prevent audience contributions from being removed.
Naija Tech News understands that viewers can add titles, descriptions and subtitles to your videos to help you attract more viewers. After you add subtitles in the original language to the video, viewers can submit translations to help expand the global audience. After receiving the submitted content, you can review, modify, publish, report, or reject the content to manage it. The audience can also review the content, and if the content is fully reviewed, it will be automatically published.
YouTube said that last month few channels used the community subtitles function, about 0.001%, and the viewing time was less than 0.2% . Creators are gradually using other functions to replace the community subtitles function.
