Restricted Mode is kind of like a parental control tool on YouTube. It prevents disturbing or confidential videos from being viewed on the platform and works on both mobile app and website.
You can certainly disable limited mode. If a network blockage is causing YouTube to be in restricted mode (such as parent-controlled and school computers), a proxy site can help you bypass the block. However, if the proxy sites are also blocked, this will not work.
YouTube algorithm
So how are certain YouTube videos blocked when you are in restricted mode? Well, YouTube’s algorithm uses age restrictions, community tagging, and many other factors and signals to flag certain content as inappropriate and make it unavailable for restricted viewing. Of course, you can turn off restricted mode on any device.
On the desktop
Go to www.youtube.com using your default browser. You can do this in incognito mode and normal browsing mode. In any case, you should sign in to your YouTube account if you are not already signed in. To do this, go to the top right corner of the YouTube homepage and enter your information. After logging in, you will see an icon in the upper right corner.
Click on it and a drop-down menu will appear. At the bottom of this menu, you will see “Limited Mode: On”. Click here and then you will see another menu. In this menu, press the switch to turn off restricted mode. You will see the page refreshes and the YouTube cache is automatically reset.
On mobile
The YouTube mobile app doesn’t work the same as the website version. The entire user interface is very different. To turn off YouTube restricted mode on mobile, open the app and sign in to your account if you’re not already signed in. To do this, go to the person-shaped icon in the upper right corner of the screen, enter your credentials, and sign in.
After logging in, navigate to the same location where the person icon was. Instead of this icon, you will see a photo of your YouTube account (if you have customized it). In the menu that appears, select “Settings”. In the Settings view, you will see a Limited Mode option with a radio button next to it. Rotate the switch to disable the restricted mode. When disabled, the Limit Mode switch will turn gray.
If you are an Android user you need to click General first, but otherwise everything is the same.
Proxy site
If you are unable to access certain YouTube videos due to network blocking, you can try using a proxy site. Your network directs your search queries through a specific server. Proxy sites essentially work by directing your searches through another server that is not subject to any network restrictions.
While this is a great way to bypass network blocking, keep in mind that proxy sites are generally considered untrustworthy and insecure. If the computer you are using has a YouTube network blocker, there will likely be a proxy blocking site as well.
First of all, you need to select the proxy site that you want to use. Your best bet is to go to Google’s free proxy site – that is, if you’re not willing to pay to watch YouTube, which you probably don’t want to do.
Once you’ve found the perfect proxy site, find the URL search bar and enter www.youtube.com . Select the location of the proxy and edit the search properties if you want / need to. Press Enter to start the search.
Keep in mind that a proxy search is a much slower process than a browser search on Google. The reason is that your connection must use an actual proxy server, which makes the whole process much slower than using your regular server directly. This means that it may take a while to open and download the YouTube video you are looking for, depending on your internet connection and the proxy you are using.
Limited mode does not turn off
If you have done everything as described above and the restriction mode still does not turn off, it is likely that your network administrator has disabled this option. In this case, use the service.
In addition, there are websites that will allow you to access prohibited YouTube videos. These websites work through proxy servers and are easy to use. However, as with proxy searches, they are much slower than direct searches in your browser, so expect slower speeds and long video loading times.
Bypassing restricted mode
Obviously, there are several ways to get around YouTube’s restricted mode. However, it’s always best to watch restricted videos at home, where you can easily turn off restricted mode. In any case, if you really need to access a specific video, there are always ways to do it.
