According to a Digitimes report, industry insiders revealed that due to the US trade ban restricting Huawei’s access to semiconductor components, this also affects its other business units except chips and smartphones. Huawei has already used it for TV production. Orders for parts and components decreased by 30%-40%.
Sources said that Huawei was forced to cut orders for TV components due to the inability to obtain sufficient supply of related semiconductor components for TV production .
Huawei has also formulated a policy to expand its product range beyond smart phones, including PCs, tablets, TVs, smart speakers, smart glasses, smart wearable devices and other Internet of Things devices.
Sources said that Huawei will provide Honor brand TVs and Huawei brand smart display products starting in 2019, using LCD panels from BOE Technology and China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT), mainly 55- and 65-inch models. Production is outsourced to BOE subsidiary.
Sources commented that if Huawei cannot solve the supply problem of related semiconductor components, Huawei’s TV business will be further weakened in 2021.
Naijatechnews learned that the main chip of Huawei’s smart screen is the self-developed Honghu series. Take the Honghu 898 equipped with Huawei’s highest-end TV X65 as an example. It has a 28nm process, a dual architecture (A53+A73) quad-core CPU, and Mali-G51 MP4 GPU.
