According to Reuters, according to five industry sources, the Bureau of Standards of India (BIS) has postponed the approval of mobile phone components and TV sets in recent months, making Xiaomi and OPPO Wait for the Chinese company’s business to be blocked.
Chinese smartphone brands, such as OPPO and Xiaomi, account for 80% of smartphone sales in India. Although most of the products of these two suppliers are assembled in India, many parts are imported from China.
According to the BIS registration plan, designated electronic products, whether imported or domestically designed, must meet Indian standards. A supply briefing by a Chinese smartphone manufacturer stated that BIS applications are usually processed within 15 days due to delays in approvals, but are now “still on hold”.
Naijatechnews.com has learned that the BIS Director General has not responded to a request for comment, Xiaomi declined to comment, and OPPO has not yet responded.
