According to Reuters, in an official letter, Indian officials warned Twitter that it also has one last chance to comply with the new IT rules, otherwise it will face “unintended consequences.”
According to reports, the new rules were announced in February and took effect at the end of April. The rules are designed to regulate content on social media and make Facebook, its WhatsApp instant messaging software, and Twitter and other companies more responsible for legal requirements. Require large social media companies to establish grievance handling mechanisms and appoint new executives to collaborate with law enforcement agencies.
According to the report, the Ministry of Science and Technology of India sent a letter to Twitter on May 26 and May 28 regarding the new rules, but the company’s response neither addressed the Ministry’s request for clarification nor indicated full compliance with these rules. At the same time, Twitter has not notified the department of the information of its chief compliance officer, and its complaint officer and node contacts are not employees under the rules.

Indian officials said that such non-compliance will lead to “unintended consequences”, including Twitter may be responsible for the content posted on it, which is to a large extent the exemption it currently enjoys. The official said, “As a gesture of good faith, we hereby send a final notice to Twitter to immediately comply with the rules.”
