Microsoft announced today that they will launch hardware-accelerated AV1 video support for the new Windows 10 system this fall, with the latest GPU.
Hardware acceleration moves the AV1 decoding work from software to hardware, which can effectively reduce PC power consumption and extend the battery life of mobile devices.

When the user meets the following requirements, it can support AV1 video hardware acceleration decoding support on Windows 10:
- 11th generation Intel Core processor, Intel Iris Xe core display
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series GPU
- AMD Radeon™ RX 6000 series GPU (coming soon)
- Windows 10 build 1909 or newer
- AV1 video extension
- Web browsers or other applications with AV1 hardware acceleration support, including applications built on the basis of media.
In addition, users may also need the latest graphics driver to get the latest features and improvements.
