Foreign media Windows Latest reported that Microsoft and HP are rolling out a new update to selected Windows 10 devices that will enable a new feature without making any changes to the BIOS settings. Microsoft said that through the Windows 10 KB4583263 update, HP hopes to improve notebook battery life performance by enabling new charging algorithms.
Windows 10 KB4583263 is currently only available for some HP notebooks . You can download and install it from the “Optional Updates” area in the “Settings” app.
When you install this update, HP said it will enable a feature called “HP Battery Health Manager.” This feature is a BIOS-level setting that most HP devices can use. It should improve the battery life of the device, but it is currently disabled by default in some configurations.
Currently, the update only applies to specific HP devices, and it will not appear on devices from other manufacturers such as Microsoft and Lenovo.
HP said that this new update will ease the high-charging phase of the process. In other words, HP’s Battery Health Manager will optimize battery charging behavior based on your usage pattern or charging pattern.
This feature is based on HP’s new algorithm, it is also to increase battery life.
It is worth noting that if your device does not support HP Battery Health Manager, even if you install Windows Update, no changes will be made. Also, remember that Windows Update will not make changes to the BIOS.
“This update does not require a restart to take effect,” Microsoft said.
If you don’t want to install the update, but you want to try the health manager function on a supported device, you can also configure it manually from the BIOS settings.
IT Home understands that if you do not install updates on supported devices, HP stated that it may cause battery swelling and chemical aging of lithium-ion batteries.
To install the update, go to the Windows Update page and click “Check for Updates.”
Only when your device meets the conditions, the HP Battery Health Manager update package will be displayed. Never forcibly install the update on a device that is not yet ready .
