WMPU reported that Microsoft recently announced that it will change the way that manual drivers are automatically installed on Windows 10 PCs. When you connect a peripheral device to a Windows 10 PC for the first time, and the device has a manual driver (also called an optional driver) on Windows Update, the manual driver will be automatically installed on the user’s device.
Until now, users have not been able to control this process. From November 5, 2020, Microsoft will introduce the following changes:
- When you plug in a peripheral device for the first time, or when the device manufacturer releases a driver to Windows Update, the automatic driver update will automatically be installed on your machine. In other words, when there are automatic drivers on Windows Update, the plug-and-play situation will not change.
- If you specifically require manual driver updates, you can manually install them on the device by navigating to “Settings”> “Update and Security”> “Windows Update”> “View Optional Updates”.
Naijatechnews.com is informed that starting from Windows 10 version 2004, when automatic drivers are not available, Windows will not search for optional/manual drivers . To access optional/manual drivers, go to “Settings”> “Update & Security”> “Windows Update”> “View Optional Updates”> “Driver Updates”.
