According to people familiar with the matter, about a dozen Republican-led states will join the Justice Department’s upcoming antitrust lawsuit against Google.
In these twelve Republican states , the attorney generals of almost every state are investigating Google’s online advertising business , led by the attorney general of Texas, Ken Paxton. People familiar with the matter said Paxton may continue to prepare his own lawsuit while joining the Justice Department case. Paxton’s lawsuit is likely to be independent of the Justice Department case.
It is reported that these states have not yet seen the complete litigation documents of the Ministry of Justice, which may affect the number of final signatures. On the other hand, after the lawsuit is filed, more states may decide to join.
Different states have different focus on Google’s investigation. Even after the lawsuit is officially filed in the next few weeks, some Democratic states may continue to investigate other aspects of Google’s huge business and file other lawsuits in the coming months.
A person familiar with the matter also said that the attorneys general of the two parties are investigating Google’s potential anti-competitive behavior on the Android mobile operating system. Another person familiar with the matter said that some states oppose the inclusion of Android in the lawsuit on the grounds that it involves too much coverage.
The Department of Justice has investigated Google’s Internet search business and its position in the online advertising market.
Neither Google spokesperson nor Texas spokesperson immediately responded to requests for comment.
