Musk threatens to sue the college Boy who tracked his plane
Twitter this week temporarily shut down a Twitter account that tracked the whereabouts of Elon Musk’s private jet. The account owner, University of Florida student Jack Sweeney (Jack Sweeney) said in an interview that he was not worried about Musk’s threat to sue him, saying that “this is a complete bluff . ”
Sweeney, 20, said he has been “discussing with some people” about a possible lawsuit by Musk. He said he would keep an eye out for any emails.
“I do think it’s a bluff, but we have to pay attention,” Sweeney said in an interview from his home on Thursday morning. “It’s hard to say after all.”
In an interview hours after Twitter suspended his own @Elonjet account, Sweeney called Musk a “complete hypocrite.” Musk recently sent out a tweet threatening legal action against Sweeney.
Musk tweeted late Wednesday that a car with California license plates was following a vehicle carrying his youngest son.
Musk tweeted: “Last night in LA, a car with a small X was stalked by a deranged stalker who thought it was me. He stopped the car , and climbed onto the hood.”
Musk then appeared to suggest that the shutdown of Sweeney’s account that tracked his private jet’s trajectory might be to blame . “We are taking legal action against Sweeney and organizations that support harm to my family,” Musk wrote.
In an interview on Thursday, Sweeney laughed off suggestions that his Twitter account could have been used to stalk Musk or his family.
“It was a car, not an airplane,” Sweeney said. “And it happened 24 hours after the last tweet on my account, which is a long time in between.” “It’s trying to connect some crazy things.”
Sweeney believes Musk may have retaliated against him by tweeting a screenshot of an internal Slack message that Sweeney said he got from a Twitter employee.
“A week after I posted about my account being shadowbanned by Twitter, a strange series of things happened,” Sweeney said.
Asked if he thought Musk was retaliating for Sweeney’s public leak of internal Twitter information, Sweeney said: “It’s a strange timing for me.” “I don’t know if it’s Really, but really weird to me,” he said. “We already know that Musk is angry at people sharing inside information, and he wants employees to sign a document guaranteeing that they will not leak information .”
Later Wednesday, Musk tweeted a short video purportedly of the driver of the car stalking his young son. The video shows a man in black wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a mask on his face. Musk asked, “Anyone know this person or this car?”
Los Angeles police said they had no information about the incident.
Sweeney said his @Elonjet account would only tweet after the plane had taken off, “I don’t give advance notice before departure.”
Twitter has also suspended Sweeney’s account for tracking the private jets of Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, among other high-profile figures.
