According to Yonhap News Agency, the latest report from the market research company Counterpoint Research shows that Samsung fell to the second place in the Southeast Asian smartphone market in the second quarter of this year, while Chinese brands expanded their market share through cheap mobile phones.
Data from Counterpoint Research shows that Samsung is the second-largest smartphone supplier in the Southeast Asian market, accounting for 19.5% of the market during the second quarter of 2020.
China’s OPPO surpassed Samsung to become the largest supplier of smartphones in Southeast Asia with a market share of 20.3% .
Chinese mobile phone manufacturers occupy four positions in the Top 5. Vivo ranked third with 17.9% share, followed by Xiaomi (14%) and Realme (12.8%).
In the fourth quarter of 2019, Samsung gave OPPO its position as the largest supplier in the Southeast Asian market for the first time. In the first quarter of this year, Samsung regained its market leadership position with a share of 18.9%, which was 0.2% higher than OPPO.
Counterpoint Research said that Samsung is in trouble because more and more Southeast Asian consumers choose to buy cheap smartphones during the outbreak of the new crown epidemic.
The market research company said that overall, smartphone shipments in the Southeast Asian market fell 22% year-on-year to 24 million units in the second quarter.
