Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has resumed TikTok services under certain conditions.
In view of the existence of indecent/immoral content on the platform and its negative impact on society, the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority has been asking TikTok to prevent its platform from spreading illegal content .
However, TikTok is unable to meet specific measures to prevent and delete illegal content, the PTA authorities said in a news release on Monday.
Therefore, the TikTok application was blocked until a satisfactory content monitoring mechanism was established.
Naijatechnews understands that due to continuous contact with the platform’s senior management before and after the implementation of the ban, TikTok guarantees to monitor content in accordance with social norms and Pakistani laws, and to ensure that it continues to participate in blocking users who upload illegal content.
Therefore, PTA, as a facilitator of users’ healthy digital experience on the Internet and the development of digital companies, decided to lift the ban.
However, the prerequisite for the restoration of TikTok services is to strictly abide by the conditions that the platform is not used to spread indecent content and that social values are not abused.
If the above conditions are not met, PTA will have to permanently block the TikTok application.
