According to Reuters, Huawei said on Wednesday that the standards that Poland plans to develop to assess the risks of telecommunications equipment suppliers are political and may be aimed at excluding Huawei from the country’s 5G network deployment.
On Tuesday, Poland released a draft cybersecurity law, giving relevant stakeholders 14 days to comment and comment on it.
This security law stipulates that based on the potential threats to Polish cybersecurity by suppliers, these suppliers will be divided into four categories. The specific criteria include whether the supplier will be affected by countries outside the EU or NATO, or whether the supplier’s country respects human rights Wait.
“The standards proposed by (Poland)… are political, unmeasurable, and opaque and unobjective,” said Ryszard Hordynski, director of strategy and communications at Huawei Poland.
He added, “If you consider what is politically inappropriate, because Poland has three 5G suppliers, you may actually be talking about our company, but I hope this will not happen.”
The bill proposes that telecommunications operators will not be allowed to purchase new equipment from suppliers that are considered “high-risk” and must replace the suppliers’ existing equipment within five years. For “medium risk” suppliers, only the purchase of new equipment is prohibited.
Trigon DM analyst Dominik Niszcz said in a report that Huawei is likely to be classified as a “medium risk” supplier, which means that operators will not be able to purchase new equipment from Huawei, but do not have to replace 4G equipment .
The network of Poland’s largest mobile operator, Play, relies heavily on Huawei equipment. Another operator, Cyfrowy Polsat, said that they need to analyze the draft before commenting on it. T-Mobile has not immediately commented on it.
Orange Polska criticized the deadline for decommissioning infrastructure, saying it is much shorter than in other countries.
