According to the latest Achilles report by Check Point, a security solution research company, there are more than 400 vulnerabilities in the digital signal processing chip (DSP) of the Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, and more than 40% of the affected models worldwide.
DSP is a part of the SoC system, used for audio signal and digital image processing, and can provide functions such as call noise reduction and audio resampling.
Check Point researchers said that the chips containing the affected DSP can be found in almost all Android phones on the planet, such as high-end phones from manufacturers such as Google, Samsung, LG, Xiaomi, and OnePlus.
The report shows that these vulnerabilities may have the following effects on affected users:
- The attacker can turn the mobile phone into a perfect spy tool, and can obtain any information without the user’s consent;
- The attacker may be able to keep the phone unresponsive, or lock all the information on the phone so that it will never be accessible;
- Bring other malicious programs and will not be found.
After Check Point reported back to Qualcomm, Qualcomm acknowledged these bugs , notified relevant equipment suppliers, and released the following related fixes :
CVE: CVE-2020-11201, CVE-2020-11202, CVE-2020-11206, CVE-2020-11207, CVE-2020-11208 and CVE-2020-11209.
IT Home learned that Check Point Research only notified Qualcomm and released a report, and did not disclose any information about these vulnerabilities.
