According to a report from the “Daily Business News”, Qualcomm has officially confirmed the reports. The company’s spokesperson said, “We have obtained (to Huawei) licenses for some products, including some 4G products”.

However, Qualcomm did not disclose when it can commence supply of 5G products to Huawei. Of course, we know that it will not be possible for now. Earlier this week, news broke that Qualcomm had obtained a Huawei license. KeyBanc, a well-known Wall Street investment bank, stated earlier this week that Qualcomm has obtained an export license to supply 4G chips to Huawei.

On July 30, Qualcomm announced that it had reached a patent license agreement with Huawei. The former will receive a one-time patent license fee of $1.8 billion. At the same time, Qualcomm has also reached a long-term agreement with Huawei. It has authorized Huawei to use Qualcomm’s patented technology. At the financial report meeting on November 5, the company confirmed that it had received a one-time payment of $1.8 billion from Huawei.

Huawei Already Have Others Chip Makers Licensed To Supply It

In addition to Qualcomm, Intel, AMD, Skyworks, and many other chip manufacturers have confirmed that they have a license to supply Huawei. There are also reports that Sony and Howe Technology can supply Huawei.

Prior to the release of its financial report on November 5, the CEO of Qualcomm stated that the company has applied to the US government for a license to sell chips to Huawei, but has not received any response.

A source close to Huawei said that Qualcomm’s license to supply Huawei will relieve the “stuck neck” dilemma especially for Huawei’s P and Mate high-end series.

Huawei Chairman Guo Ping revealed in a public speech that if the US allows it, Huawei is willing to use Qualcomm chips.

It now appears that the U.S. will grant permission for companies to supply Huawei. However, the condition is that the technology will have nothing to do with 5G. With this current trend, it shows that the ban on Huawei is more than just “national security”.
