According to Samsung’s official press release, the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event will be held at the COEX in Samseong-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul, South Korea at the “end of July”, and it is expected to “launch the next generation of folding screen devices”, including the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Samsung said it “aims to further drive the widespread adoption of foldable phones and solidify its position as the category creator.”

The new location represents a notable shift from recent years, as Samsung has typically chosen to hold launches in countries such as the US, UK and Spain. According to Counterpoint Research, South Korea “leads with 13.6% adoption of foldable screen phones” by 2022, Samsung noted.

Tim Roh, President and Head of Samsung Mobile eXperience (MX) Business, said: “Holding Unpacked in Seoul is significant because it is an emerging hub of innovation and culture, as well as a hub for foldable screen products.”

Note from us: The event will also be a little earlier than in previous years, and Galaxy Unpacked is usually held in August. Earlier news pointed out that Samsung is considering the idea of holding Galaxy Unpacked in July, possibly in order to increase sales in the current quarter. Samsung has recently been grappling with a sharp drop in profits due to weak demand for semiconductors, even as phone sales remain fairly upbeat .

In terms of folding screen devices, there are rumors that Samsung will use a new water drop hinge to make the body thinner; the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will get a larger secondary screen, and both phones will achieve dust protection.

Samsung is also expected to unveil the Galaxy Tab S9 series of tablets, new wireless earphones, the Galaxy Watch 6 series of watches, and more.
