August 10 According to foreign media CNBC, the U.S. Air Force decided on Friday to award the Joint Rocket Launch Alliance (ULA) and SpaceX a multi-billion dollar NSSL launch contract.
Naijatechnews.com learned that in these contracts, ULA won 60% of the shares, while SpaceX won the remaining 40%.
According to officials, the launch project is the second phase of the NSSL (National Security Space Launch Program). The program is organized by the Space Force and Missile Systems Center in Los Angeles, California. The US military said it expects to spend $1 billion on launch projects each year.
Four companies bid for the plan, including ULA, SpaceX, Blue Origin and Northrop Grumman. This time only ULA and SpaceX won the second phase of the launch contract.
SpaceX will start a five-year NSSL launch mission in 2022, and ULA will be responsible for the rest of the 1920s. The main participants in SpaceX’s launch mission are the Falcon 9 launch vehicle and the Falcon Heavy launch vehicle , which need to complete about 13-14 military launch missions within five years.
Between 2012 and 2019, the U.S. military has delivered more than US$12 billion in launch contracts for ULA and SpaceX.
