The game industry market research company DFC Intelligence released the latest “Global Video Game Player Segmentation” report on Friday. As of the middle of this year, the global game player population has now exceeded 3 billion.
Unsurprisingly, the mobile gaming market is by far the fastest growing market. Nearly half of the 3 billion players mentioned above only use smartphones to play games. The report also includes a breakdown by region, showing the size of the pure mobile gaming market in Asia.
Specifically, China is also the country with the highest participation in the PC game field, with 300 million users, followed by India with 150 million.
When it comes to dedicated console gaming systems, only about 3% of the global population and 8% of gamers are console consumers. However, the per capita expenditure of the host consumer group is the highest.
Here are some other highlights:
Asia is the main region of paid game consumers, with 1.42 billion people
There are 668 million paying game consumers in Europe
383 million paying game consumers in Latin America
261 million paying game consumers in North America
There are an estimated 1.5 billion PC game users (this includes some overlap with gamers who use console systems and mobile devices at the same time)
