Samsung Galaxy S24 features Super HDR photos, but older devices left in the dark

Super HDR feature is not coming to popular Samsung devices such as the Galaxy S23 series, Z Flip 5, and Z Fold 5. Samsung community moderator confirmed that the application processor and display support the Super HDR (similar to Android’s Ultra HDR).

Hardware requirements ruined the possibility of the Super HDR feature’s arrival on the Samsung Galaxy S23, Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5. Despite these devices receiving the One UI 6.1 update and Galaxy AI features, a crucial photo feature won’t be available.

Thanks to Samsung’s Super HDR and Google’s Ultra HDR feature, photos appear much brighter in certain exposed areas. The technology significantly details shadows in the image, making the difference easily visible between normal and HDR images.

Galaxy S23 Ultra is equipped with Samsung’s pro-grade OLED screen and 200-megapixel camera sensor. Still, the Super HDR (aka Ultra HDR) is not supported on 2023’s Ultra flagship. However, Google rolled out Ultra HDR support to last year’s Pixel 7 flagships.

Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are not eligible for Pixel 8’s AI and on-device AI features. Samsung brought a lot of S24 features to last year’s models, giving users an edge over preferring Galaxy over Pixel. Well, we don’t deny the chance of Ultra HDR’s arrival on the S23 series in the future.
