Samsung Galaxy’s Exynos GPU upgrade plan starts with hiring spree in the US, India

Samsung is looking to hire talented developers in the US and India to foster its GPU design segment. The company is reportedly ramping up its efforts to strengthen its graphics processing unit technology by recruiting developers in the United States and India.

According to a recent ETNews report, Samsung is hiring developers from the US and India for various areas including GPU design, performance improvement, graphics drivers, and AP (application processor) software development, which consists of GPUs.

Samsung will base the developers at its R&D centers in Austin and San Jose in the US and Bengaluru in India. Newly hired developers would be aligned with a team consisting of AMD staff.

The team will focus on low-power implementation, which is a key measure of smartphone performance. It indicates the company is looking forward to improving Galaxy devices’ performance through AP and GPU refinements.

“The trend is that the Exynos portfolio, which includes GPUs, is expanding from high-end to mid- and low-end smartphone APs and even automotive APs,” a semiconductor industry source said. “The importance of GPUs for processing large amounts of data is gradually increasing.”

Samsung’s GPU development team within the Semiconductor Business Division (DS) is responsible for optimizing GPUs for smartphone APs. Since the company doesn’t develop its own GPUs for Exynos, it has been collaborating with AMD to develop GPUs for mobile APs.
