Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Monday that the new products to be announced at Tesla’s “Battery Day” event will not be mass-produced until 2022 .
Musk said on social media that Tesla’s “Battery Day” conference “affects long-term production, especially the production of Semi, Cybertruck and Roadster. The products we announced will not reach true mass production until 2022.”
Musk also said that Tesla intends to increase battery purchases from Panasonic, LG, and CATL (and possibly other partners), but “even if battery suppliers develop at maximum speed, it is expected that they will continue to be purchased in 2022 and beyond. There is a serious shortage unless we take action ourselves.”
Tesla will hold its annual shareholder meeting on September 22 (Tuesday), followed by a “Battery Day” conference.
Tesla shares plunged 8% after the market, and the stock closed up 1.64% on Monday to $449.39.
