According to foreign media reports, electric car manufacturer Tesla has deployed Powerpack battery energy storage systems at about 60 Electrify America charging stations, and it is expected to deploy more by the end of this year.
Last year, Tesla and Electrify America announced a cooperation agreement. According to the agreement, the company will deploy Powerpack battery energy storage systems in more than 100 charging stations operated by Electrify America .
Now, Tesla has installed Powerpack battery energy storage systems in approximately 60 Electrify America charging stations, which accounts for more than half of the agreement.
According to the official website of Tesla China, Powerpack is a fully integrated AC-connected energy storage system that has everything needed to connect to a building or utility network, and has the advantage of far exceeding the application range of an independent battery system. The battery system in the Powerpack has an extremely sophisticated design. Each Powerpack contains 16 independent battery compartments, a temperature control system, and hundreds of DC energy storage devices for monitoring and reporting unit-level performance.
The company said that the Powerpack system can be expanded according to the space, power and energy needs of any location, from small commercial enterprises to regional utilities.
Foreign media said that Tesla’s battery not only saves money for Electrify America, but also reduces the demand on the grid during peak electricity consumption and reduces peak electricity bills.
Electrify America is an American electric car charging network giant and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen. In November last year, electric car manufacturer BYTON announced that it would cooperate with Electrify America to provide car owners with two years of free charging services in the United States.
By the end of 2021, Byton car owners will be able to use more than 3,500 charging stations with a power of more than 150kW from Electrify America’s more than 800 charging stations to charge their cars.
