Microsoft pushed the latest 89.0.731.0 Edge Dev update to the developer channel early this morning, and announced that it will support the Canary version of Apple’s new ARM chip later this week. But for other users, this is the last Edge update this year, and the next update will be the new version next year.
Edge Dev 89.0.731.0 update content:
new features:
- Add a system prompt to show that the browser tab is muted because the system is set to mute.
- An option has been added to “Settings” to prevent automatic download of Edge updates when connected to a metered network connection. IT Home understands that this feature is currently only available on Windows 10.
- Added a setting option to disable the F12 entry of the development tool.
- Added support to force a new window to pop up into a new tab page (instead of self-service terminal mode).
- Chromium’s support for management policies is enabled to support “Basic authentication via HTTP”.
Improved reliability:
- Fixed the issue that Edge could not be opened.
- Fixed an issue where Edge could not shut down normally or install updates if some extensions were installed.
- Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the browser to crash when searching from the New Tab page.
- Fixed a crash when downloading files.
- Fixed a crash when checking for updates on Mac.
- Fixed an issue where closing the pop-up menu on Mac would sometimes cause the browser to crash.
- Fixed an issue where Dolby Vision media playing on Netflix would sometimes crash due to error D7361-1253.
- Fixed the problem that sometimes the page cannot be opened in Immersive Reader.
- Fixed the problem that the fixed wizard could not be opened.
Changed behavior:
- A delay is added to the SHY user interface, the time is between the mouse leaving and disappearing.
- Fixed an issue where items could not be added to “Favorites” when using Immersive Reader.
- Fixed an issue where closing tabs sometimes caused gaps between the remaining tabs and the new tab button.
- Fixed an issue where Edge would sometimes take over the screen when displaying update notifications on Mac.
- Fixed an issue where the option to always translate pages sometimes did not work.
- Resolved the following problem: When multiple passwords are available, selecting a password in the autofill pop-up window sometimes causes the wrong password to be entered in the field.
- Fixed an issue where the “coupon” prompt appeared in the address bar, but no comparison was displayed in the pop-up menu.
- Fixed the problem that sometimes the text annotation on the PDF cannot be dragged to another location.
- Fixed the problem that the profile picture in “Settings” would sometimes be damaged.
- Solved the following problem: when the button from favorites or history is hidden from the toolbar, opening the favorites or history menu sometimes causes the button to stay on the toolbar.
- Fixed the issue that sometimes the update status of Edge in “Settings” is not displayed in Linux.
- The management policy of “allowing pop-up windows during page uninstallation” is deprecated.
- The management policies of sending site information to improve service and enabling metric reporting have been replaced by diagnostic data and allowing telemetry policies, as well as the enforcement of the old default referrer policies, so these management policies have been deprecated.
Known issues:
- Some extensions (such as the Microsoft Editor extension) do not work on Linux. Once installed, they will crash and be disabled. Currently under investigation.
- Users of certain ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on YouTube. The workaround is that temporarily disabling the extension should allow playback to continue.
- Some users still encounter a problem, that is, all tabs and extensions immediately crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error. The most common cause of this error is outdated security or antivirus software provided by vendors such as Symantec. In this case, updating the software will fix it.
- Kaspersky Internet Suite users who have installed related extensions may sometimes see web pages such as Gmail fail to load. The failure is because the main Kaspersky software has expired, so it can be resolved by ensuring that the latest version is installed.
- After we performed some previous repairs in this area, some users found that favorites were copied. The most common way to trigger this problem is to install Edge’s stable channel and then log in with the account that you have logged in to Edge before.
- When scrolling using trackpad gestures or the touch screen, some users will see “swing” behavior, where scrolling in one dimension also causes the page to scroll back and forth in another dimension.
