News on September 25, recently, because TikTok recently released an “open source software statement” on its official website, some people began to worry that the US government’s ban would have a negative impact on the open source field.

In response to this, the Linux Foundation also posted a blog post on its official website on September 18, stating: “Nothing in the ban will prevent or affect us and two important members of the open source ecosystem-Tencent and ByteDance. The ability to collaborate.”

The Linux Foundation also stated: “Our members and participants from all over the world have participated in open collaboration because it is open and transparent, and these participants have made it clear that they want to continue to collaborate with peers around the world.”

The Linux Foundation is a non-profit scientific and technological organization and the largest non-profit open source alliance in the world. Its goal is to promote the development of open source technology and the popularization of commercial use. The Linux Foundation originated from the Open Source Development Laboratory (OSDL) in 2000 and merged with the Free Standards Group (FSG) to become the current organization. At present, well-known technology companies such as Microsoft, IBM, Intel, Cisco, Fujitsu, HP, NEC, Oracle, Qualcomm and Samsung are all members of the Linux Foundation.

On September 18, local time, the U.S. Department of Commerce issued a ban on TikTok and WeChat, announcing that from September 20, they will be released on the U.S. application market.

On September 21, a federal judge in San Francisco issued a preliminary injunction to prevent a similar order from the US Department of Commerce against WeChat from taking effect on Sunday. Subsequently, on September 25, a U.S. judge stated that the Trump administration would submit legal documents before Friday local time to defend the decision to delist TikTok in the U.S. app market, otherwise the ban must be postponed.
