TikTok, the overseas version of Douyin, responded to the US ban in a special way: it continued to recruit hundreds of employees in the US.
Business Insider’s analysis found that in the past week, the number of TikTok offices in New York, Los Angeles and Mountain View increased by 3.5% to 357 .
TikTok’s U.S. office hiring positions accounted for a slight increase in the entire company, from 27.4% to 28%.
The background of TikTok’s increase in US recruitment is that Trump has signed two executive orders to force it to sell its US business to US companies, otherwise it will face a total blockade. Microsoft and Oracle are considered the most likely to acquire TikTok.
Brendan Gahan, partner and chief social officer of Mekanism, an American creative agency, said, “TikTok still seems to be hiring quite a bit in the United States. I imagine it increasingly believes that the company will not have any major problems. Trump’s postponement of the ban has strengthened its belief.”
Karyn Spencer, senior vice president of the online celebrity marketing platform Whalar. said that TikTok has increased its recruitment efforts, “showing that it believes that the company has a future, and I also believe that TikTok has a future.”
Spencer called TikTok US CEO Kevin Mayer and General Manager Vanessa Pappas “two very capable people who have been leading large companies through the I have extensive experience in difficult issues. I believe TikTok has formed a team of lawyers to defend its rights when needed. It does not seem to be afraid of Trump’s intimidation strategies.”
TikTok has stated that it will sue the US government. A TikTok employee plans to file a lawsuit later this week, accusing the US government of an unconstitutional ban.
