Volkswagen launched two ID.4 sports electric vehicles in China
Volkswagen launched two ID.4 sports multi-purpose electric vehicles in China on Tuesday, challenging Tesla in the world’s largest electric vehicle market.
As one of the ID.4 CROZZs, it is produced by a joint venture between Volkswagen and FAW Group. The other ID.4 X is produced by a joint venture between Volkswagen and SAIC.
The launch of these two products marked the beginning of Volkswagen’s vigorous entry into China’s electric vehicle market.
Volkswagen did not disclose the price of these two electric vehicles, but the company stated in an introduction at the product launch that after the Chinese government provides electric vehicle subsidies, the starting prices of these two sporty multi-purpose electric vehicles will be Less than 250,000 yuan.
In the Chinese market, Tesla’s Model 3 electric vehicle produced in China, after the Chinese government provides electric vehicle subsidies, the starting price is currently 249,900 yuan. The two cars Volkswagen launched in the Chinese market this time are larger than Model 3.
Volkswagen executives said at the product launch that the two ID.4 electric vehicles will have a cruising range of more than 400 kilometers and provide wireless software updates .
Stephan Woellenstein, CEO of Volkswagen China, said that by 2023, the cumulative number of ID series electric vehicles launched by Volkswagen in China will reach 8.
The “New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan (2021-2035)” was released on Monday, setting the tone for the overall development of new energy vehicles in the next 15 years. The plan pointed out that the development of new energy vehicles is the only way to move from a major automobile country to a powerful automobile country, and is a strategic measure to tackle climate change and promote green development. By 2025, the sales of new energy vehicles will reach about 20% of the sales of new vehicles. By 2035, pure electric vehicles will become the mainstream of new sales vehicles.
According to media reports, the sales volume of new energy vehicles in the Chinese market is expected to reach approximately 1.1 million vehicles this year.
