Why My YouTube Premium is Showing Ads? Guide to Fix

YouTube Premium | vidiq

Anyone who’s bought YouTube premium must have done it with one motive – to not deal with the annoying ads. Of course, great content is also a prime reason to subscribe to the service. It’s definitely a great streaming service to have alongside a Spectrum TV cable plan if you don’t want to miss out on juicy content.

Unfortunately, lots of YouTube premium users have been complaining they are seeing ads. Is that the case with you too? If yes, your frustration is real.

Why Am I Seeing Ads?

This issue is not new. Many users came forward with complaints and Google claimed it has fixed the bug yet, the problem continues. It is since 2019 Google support has been working on this problem. According to support, there is a possibility of an error at the user’s end due to which the ads might be appearing.

Google support also explained that for enjoying the benefits of a premium subscription, you must be logged in to your YouTube account on all devices. the plan must be active and the user must be in a country that supports YouTube Premium. If all these conditions are met, and yet you see ads, then this could be a technical glitch.

How To Make the Ads Disappear?

Here are some quick-fix techniques to make the unwanted disappear and enjoy the benefit of YouTube premium:

1: Check the Availability in Your Country

Unfortunately, the premium subscription won’t work in locations where it’s not available yet.

To check the listed countries, it’s recommended to consult YouTube help. Your country will be listed there (if it supports premium).

There is a way to bypass this restriction. You can always connect to a VPN and change your location (to the approved list) and no longer will be bothered by ads.

2: Unblock Cookies

The ads are likely to appear when you are watching a YouTube video embedded on a 3rd party website. You just have to tweak the default settings to make the ads go away. All you have to do is unblock the YT cookies.

Follow these steps for unblocking;

1.       Launch your browser

2.       Go to Settings

3.       Hit “Privacy and security”

4.       Choose “Cookies & other site data”

5.       Go to the “sites that can always use the cookies” field

6.       Select “Add”

7.       Enter “[*.]youtube.com” in the field

8.       Hit the “Add” button and save the changes

9.       Relaunch your browser

10.   Play the video again

You won’t be bothered by ads again! The procedure is the same for all other browsers.

3: Sign Out and Log Into Your Account Again

It’s important that you are using the account that is linked to your YouTube Prime membership. On the app and website, instead of the YouTube logo, you’ll see the YouTube Premium logo when you are signed in.

Sign out of your account, clear your browser’s cache, and then sign in to your account again. See if it helps. Remember, if you are using a third-party app to watch YouTube videos, you will see ads (unless you follow method 2) because the benefits of the premium membership are limited to Youtube’s website and app.

4: Check for App Updates

If you are only seeing on the YouTube app, this is a sign you are not using the latest version of the app.

To check for updates, open the play store on your mobile device. Look for any pending upgrades. If they are, Install the update right away. This should fix the problem.

5: Contact Youtube Support

If you have double-checked your premium membership, you are in a location that supports YouTube premium, you have logged into YouTube on all devices, and you have tried the remedies mentioned above, but the ads continue to appear, the problem is not at your end.

Don’t frustrate yourself over it because this is clearly a technical glitch. Your best bet is to contact YouTube support and tell you what’s going on. They should be able to guide you or troubleshoot the error via remote support, if necessary. Let them know you have tried all the tricks in the book to fix the problem. Hopefully, they will come up with a solution.

Final Words

Within no time, you will be back to watching YouTube videos without the annoying ads that hinder the experience. You deserve to enjoy the benefits of the premium membership.
