Google announced today that it will rename the “G Suite” office application suite for business users to “Google Workspace”.
As early as 2016, Google announced that it would build a new corporate office service based on the original corporate office application “Google Apps for Work” and named it “G Suite”. G Suite includes some of Google’s popular applications, such as Google Gmail, Google Drive, Google Chat, Google Calendar, and Google Docs.
Google’s renaming of G Suite this time also coincides with the launch of some new features, such as the integration of Google Meet video call services with Google Docs and other services. Now, users can video chat with colleagues displayed in the small box in the corner of the document editing window.
Analysts said that the new crown virus epidemic has promoted the growth of demand for online business tools and forced vendors such as Google and Microsoft to provide their services again in an effort to meet the needs of online office.
Google vice president Javier Soltero (Javier Soltero) said the name change shows that work is no longer confined to the physical space of the office.
Analysts also said that these changes may help Google increase revenue and become a stronger challenger for Microsoft. Currently, Microsoft Office 365 is more popular with other users.
