News from Naijatechnews August 8 US President Trump has signed an executive order stating that any transactions between ByteDance and TikTok and any transactions between Tencent and WeChat will cease after 45 days. Bloomberg’s US State Department reporter Nicholas Wadhams (Nicholas Wadhams) quoted people familiar with the matter on Twitter that the transaction ban may include the removal of TikTok and WeChat from Google and Apple’s App stores.
Wadham quoted a person familiar with the matter on Twitter as saying that the U.S. Department of Commerce is considering whether to ban a series of transactions related to TikTok and WeChat , such as three possible transaction bans:
1. Cannot sign a license agreement with them to make these apps available in the app store (because this puts Google and Apple at risk);
2. You cannot place ads on TikTok;
3. You cannot agree to the TikTok service agreement and download it to your mobile phone (because doing so means agreeing to sign an intellectual property license agreement with the developer).
IT House previously reported that a reporter from the Los Angeles Times quoted a White House official as saying that Trump’s administrative ban on WeChat (WeChat) is limited to WeChat-related transactions and does not involve Tencent’s gaming business.
