According to Mobile World Live, the Australian government allocated 30 million Australian dollars (approximately US$21.2 million) to support 5G use cases in various industries and improve spectrum management as part of a broader job creation plan.
Australia’s 5G innovation plan will invest 22.1 million Australian dollars to provide funding for commercial 5G trials and test beds in key industries such as agriculture, mining, logistics and manufacturing.
In the next two years, another 7.1 million Australian dollars will be invested to improve the efficiency of spectrum allocation and simplify the digital spectrum license system .
Australia’s Minister of Communications, Cybersecurity and Arts Paul Fletcher said in a statement that the plan will demonstrate the productivity driven by 5G applications.
He stated that spectrum is a key component of 5G deployment, adding: “These investments will make spectrum allocation more efficient and reduce red tape so that Australians can experience the benefits of 5G faster.”
These investments are part of the Australian government’s recently announced job creation digital business plan, which aims to accelerate the country’s digital transformation by providing training and launching new infrastructure that improves connectivity.
