Earlier this month, Rockstar Games finally announced that a new entry in the “Grand Theft Auto” series is in early development, saying that “the next entry in the series is in progress.” A recently published patent from Take-Two Interactive, which owns Rockstar Games, gives us some insight into GTA 6’s maps.
Earlier today, Reddit user u/CoryLVV came across a patent from Take-Two Interactive on the US Patent and Trademark Office website, which was only published a few days ago. The patent, titled “Chapter Management System and Method in a Multiplayer Network Gaming Environment,” outlines a system that would allow the company to automatically switch players from one chapter to another without any buffering or waiting. In addition to drastically reducing load times, the patent also hints that there will be a plethora of areas for them to explore given that players will need to transition between different areas, implying that the game’s map will be very large.

Naijatechnews understands that it’s not yet certain whether the patent is for Grand Theft Auto 6 or another game, but since “the next entry in the series” seems to be the company’s current priority, the answer is likely to be definitely.
