Step-by-Step tutorial to Unlock the Bootloader on Motorola Moto G5

Step 1: Enable USB debugging on your device and enable OEM unlocking in the developer options menu. To enable developer options hidden menu, tap Build number in the about phone menu 7 times.

Step 2: Navigate to ADB and fastboot folder mentioned in Things to Remember. (Default path will be C:Adb and Fastboot)

Step 3: Press and hold shift and make a right mouse click anywhere in the window and press “Open command window here”. A command window will open up.

Step 4: Reboot your phone into fastboot mode. For that power off your device. Press and hold volume button for a few seconds, followed by the Power key for a while and then release keys.

Step 5: Now to check whether all drivers are correctly installed. Type in  “fastboot devices”. It should display a device ID along with the ‘fastboot’ message. If it doesn’t, then make sure that you have the proper device drivers installed.

Step 6: After verifying the above step type in “fastboot oem get_unlock_data”, which will return a string. Now copy this data into a word file and delete all the spaces between the lines to obtain a single string of data.

Step 8: Now enter the previously obtained key in Step 6 into the unlock webpage and then click on “Can my device be unlocked”.

Step 9: Agree to their terms and conditions, and proceed. Your unlock code will be directly sent to your mail id, which is used to unlock your device.

Step 10: Open your command window and enter the following code “fastboot oem unlock unlock key“, where unlock key is the key you received by mail.

Step 11: Within a few moments your bootloader will be unlocked and your phone will be ready for rooting and installing custom ROMs.
