Why is your prepaid meter showing a “link error”? The Customer user Interface Unit is not having a strong communication link with your meter through the power source. Below are the most common causes of the link error:
- Weak batteries were inserted into the Customer user Interface Unit.
- The Customer user Interface Unit is not paired with the meter.
- The socket the Customer user Interface Unit is plugged into is not being supplied by IKEJA ELECTRIC Power Supply.
- There is no power supply indication on the meter.

If you are trying to load your credit token and you are getting a “Link Error”, Kindly follow the instructions below:
- Ensure CIU is powered with a new and functional battery.
- Plug the CIU into a power supply(not a generator or inverter).
- Ensure it’s within proximity to the meter.
- Ensure CIU is paired with the meter.

To pair the meter, kindly type 5258 + 5th digit to the 12th digit of your meter number and press enter. on the CIU and press enter, after which you can input the token purchased.
Please make sure this is done when there is a power supply in your neighborhood and inside the apartment where the meter is installed.
If the error persists, note your meter number, phone number, and account number, then contact your electricity distribution company.
How to pair the CIU -PC1 prepaid meter with the Customer User Interface
For 01011 meters Input: 5258 + the 5th digit to the 12th digit of your meter number and press enter.
For 541 meters Input: 1593570 + Meter Number + Enter (the blue button) i.e. (159357054130175653 and Press Enter)
Exclude the digits in brackets i.e. first four digits (0101) and the 13th digit (7)
The feedback response on the meter will be “Accepted”.

- 10 – To check the meter number
- 01 – Available meter credit
If after entering the shortcodes and your meter number or available meter credit is not shown, please follow the how to pair the CIU-PC1 prepaid meter with the customer user interface.

For 01011 meters.
Input: 1593570 + Meter Number + Enter (the blue button)
i.e. (159357054130175653 and Press Enter) for
541 meters.

How to recharge your prepaid meter without light
There are two instances of loading your token on the CIU -PC1 prepaid meter
- First, make sure the power supply indicator on your meter is ON (This is an indication that there is electricity in your power line or phase). If you can not reach the meter because of the point of installation, simply check if there is electricity in your neighborhood.
- Put OFF your generator and inverter if you have any to disconnect from these power source
- Connect to direct to socket.
- Insert new batteries into the customer user interface unit and power on the device. If the device does not come on, please press the number ‘3’ on the keypad for the battery to wake up.
- Plug the customer user interface into your wall power socket in your office/home or where ever you are using the meter.
- Switch ON the customer user interface (This step will enable the unit to communicate with the meter via the socket wiring).

Buy electricity online get the token and recharge by inputting the 20 digits into the customer user interface unit and pressing enter (Blue button).
The feedback response from the meter will be ‘’Accepted”. Note if you are recharging for the first time and you have a bonus unit, in this case, the bonus token is loaded before the actually purchased token.
